Ian Steere has the opportunity to shine

Harry Giles is headed to Oak Hill Academy this fall. Big news, right? News that has already been thrown around enough that it has become old news. The elite, alpha-dog senior will continue to carry on the transition of possible one-and-done guys to graduate from Oak Hill and become an NBA draft pick a year later. With the giant shoes left by Giles at the successful Wesleyan Christian Academy program, there definitely is a giant void that will not be able to be filled by just one person. However, if someone can nestle into 4-5 spot on the floor over the next few years, might it be Ian Steere?

Steere, a native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, will be returning to his home state as he played out his freshman year at the Carlisle School in Virginia. Asked about the move, Steere was eyes wide open on the transition. “It’s going to be great! I’m really going to be able to fine tune all of my athletic abilities.”

Speaking on Steere’s athletic abilities, the Aaron Gordon lookalike has quite the frame and evolving set of ball skills to be quite the recruited big man in 2018. Standing at 6’8 and very productive around the basket on rebounds and dunk attempts, the son of bodybuilding champion Noah Steere has the chance to be a mismatch issue at the next level. He already has confidence in stepping out in shooting the perimeter jumper, is more than willing to run the floor from rim to rim, and gives his body for his squad on the loose ball attempt. Throw in his athleticism and already well developed frame and it isn’t surprising to see that the UNC-Charlotte program dished out an offer to the instate recruit back in January.

Competing for the CP3 crew this past summer on the 15-under level and bringing home the Las Vegas Classic championship in Las Vegas this past July, Steere understands that there might be a void leftover by Giles. “I’m going to have some huge shoes to fill but I’ve been working hard in the offseason with my ball handling, refining my post moves, and hitting the gym.”

With such other programs as NC State, Georgetown, Yale, Miami, and Providence showing further interest with the WCA transfer, a potential visit could be taken in the coming weeks to Georgetown and Wake Forest. Regardless, get used to hearing much more about Ian Steere as he looks to have what it takes to become an ACC-level recruit in 2018.
