E1T1 Showcase: Sleepers

The Each 1 Teach 1 Showcase brought in some of the best talent throughout the Sunshine State on Saturday. The state sure isn’t lacking in talent in the coming years and while there were a number of kids that have already established themselves as quality college recruits, there were others that enhanced their resumes during their time in Tampa. The state is just chalk full of talent and it is always difficult for all the deserving talent to receive their dues on the recruitment front, thus it was Serrel Smith and Xion Golding that displayed sleeper qualities during their time in Tampa.

Amaru Bryant, SG, East Gadsden High School, 2016: A senior wing who hasn’t totally grown into his frame just yet where strength gain is a need in order to handle contact on drives to the basket a lot much better, there is a lot of long term value with Bryant. The 6-foot-2 senior makes good places at the basket and is comfortable in hitting jumpers from off the bounce. Due to his extended reach and quality energy levels, Bryant can be leaned upon for his defense as a multi-positional guy on the perimeter where he can contain smaller guards, yet also has the length to defend bigger wings. With solid versatility to him and production, Bryant is a fine sleeper out of the Sunshine State.

Xion Golding, PG/SG, Windermere Prep, 2017: A relative unknown out of Florida, Golding showed off a solid body and size at the combo spot during his time in Tampa. He has a solid mid-range pull-up that he can hit before the second line defense can reach him and a fine first step in getting to the basket. With a well-oiled motor on hand, the Windermere Prep guard can defend different spots in the backcourt and remains heavily involved within the miscellaneous. Having moved from New York at a young age, the now product out of Orlando has yet to receive much of a college recruitment, but could see his stock expand as he enters his upperclassman years this fall.

DJ Brittian, PG, Grady High School, 2018: With a great body and physique already in tow, Brittian displayed a lot of long term capabilities that should only broaden themselves as the years progress. The Grady High guard has quality length and fine instincts in playing the passing lanes. He absolutely loves to lock his man up for longer portions out on the floor and can be leaned upon as a defensive stopper on the perimeter. He is no slouch on the offensive end where he is tough and strong enough to finish through the body at the basket and with solid two-way production, Brittian looks set to become a solid name out of Peach State.

Nick Honor, PG, Lake Highland Prep, 2018: A bit of a stocky build but with a great feel for the game, Nick Honor fits the mold of the pass first type at the lead guard spot. He isn’t the quickest or the most athletic of guys around, however the Each 1 Teach 1 product understands how to run a team and does just that. He was the lead guy for his 16-under crew this past summer and showed off his intellect, decision-making, and even the ability to hit the outside jumper when placed off the ball on Saturday. There is a lot of value in guys like Honor and thus, the Lake Highland Prep product should begin to see his recruitment expand from here on out.

Serrel Smith, SG, St. Petersburg High School, 2018: Smith is an entertaining ballplayer where the long and rangy guard can play either spot in the backcourt but is best with it in his hands and in looking to put the ball through the basket. Whenever this is exactly asked out of him and in a setting like Saturday in the camp variety, Smith really shows out. He can score the ball at all three levels on the floor and has a really nice, balanced mid-range jumper that he uses appropriately. Throw in his long arms and athleticism at the basket and the sleeper guard out of St. Petersburg shouldn't be an unknown much longer, that is if he can continue to produce the way that he did on Saturday.
