CJ Keyser picks the Shockers

Play Angry. That’s the motto for things at Wichita State under the tutelage of Greg Marshall. That couldn’t be a better mantra for its recent commit, 2016 guard CJ Keyser. The native of Baltimore, Maryland is one of the toughest, fiercest competitors around and should fit the fabric of the Missouri Valley program from day one.

Originally committed to Colorado State before opting out of his verbal last spring, Keyser should have a great prep year at Brewster Academy this winter, that being the juggernaut program within the loaded NEPSAC. A 6-foot-3 guard with an explosive first step, the Charm City native loves to get out and attack the basket. Physical play isn’t an issue for him and Keyser buys into exerting quality energy and focus on both ends of the floor, something that fits well within the WSU program.

Opting to become the replacement for the lethal backcourt that the Shockers have displayed over the past few years, Keyser gave intel on what the primary sell was in attending the successful program. “They see me coming in and being like Tekele Cotton. Mainly being a defensive stopper that can do multiple things on the floor.”

After having visited Utah last weekend, Wichita pulled a shocker, you could say, but it felt like the place to be for the tough and aggressive guard. “It just felt like home. They get the job done and do things the right way.”

Its first commit in the 2016 class, Greg Marshall and his crew will have to find further implants in replacing the killer duo that is Fred Van Vleet and Ron Baker, but Thursday afternoon was a great start as Keyser looks to have what it takes to be a productive guard during the early stages of his playing career at the Kansas-based institution.
