Christian David nears breakout status
Smooth is a giant understatement in describing Christian David. The 6-foot-7, 190-pound wing from Milton, Ontario has quickly settled in at his new home in the United States and with it, a bevy of college programs have made their ways to Vermont Academy in establishing what the Canadian encapsulates within his skillset.
Finding shot makers with size and length is like searching for a needle in a haystack. You know that there is one present, but it is just so difficult to find. That is why once you do discover it, it is like finding gold. That could be said about Christian David, a Filipino Canadian that recently transferred into Vermont Academy a few weeks back. Sporting great length, effortless shot making skills, and versatility in being able to create for others on the drive to the basket and in the open floor, the potential out of the junior wing doesn’t get much better.
In speaking with David's new coach, Alex Popp gave insight on what the junior wing has already exhibited while on campus. "Christian has demonstrated a seamless adjustment to life in our corner of New England after just three weeks on campus. If you love the game of basketball and want to maximize your education in a beautiful setting, Vermont Academy is the place to launch." Popp went further about David's love for the game. "Fortunately for Christian, he is very passionate about his craft and is already making an impact."
On Tuesday morning at his school’s open gym, in front of a throng of college coaches, David showed just how good of a college prospect he really is. He walked away with offers from Old Dominion and Creighton, two more that he can be added to the list that includes Oregon, Illinois, Baylor, Providence, and St. Bonaventure.
However, the list remains a bit short at the moment because really, not many have been able to see the smooth and productive Canadian. That should all change as David plays alongside such high-level prospects as Bruce Brown and Xavier commit Tyrique Jones at Vermont Academy this winter. Among the programs that are planning on seeing David within the next two weeks include the likes of Davidson, Stanford, Miami, Virginia, and Wake Forest, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see any of the five programs hand out an offer to him.
With David’s first full season in the states looming and the versatility already in tow that would allow for him to play all three perimeter spots on either end of the floor, one would assume that if all goes right, that the Canadian junior will end up enhancing his resume as a top-100 recruit and a priority one at that for some of the best of programs on the national platform.
