Williams stays in-state with NKU
Carson Williams drew a big crowd of mid-major after his play with The Travelers. At the Best of the South he was a popular player and Northern Kentucky knew it. New head coach John Brannen and staff secured an important pledge from the 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward from Owenton (KY) Owen County on Wednesday night.
Williams joins a stellar five-man class for the Norse. Blake Spellman, Jalen Tate, Mason Faulkner and Dantez Wilson have already committed to the program.
“I just really like the new staff and think they can take the program places. Plus, it helps that the school is real close to home, just 55 minutes away,” Williams said. “They just built a great facility and I like that. I think he way they’ve been recruiting the way it needs to be in order to win and i am excited to be a part of that.”
Williams is an athletic and aggressive forward that plays well above the rim. He was on constant attack and a difficult match-up for teams inside and out. That’s exactly how Brannen and staff wants to use him.
“It seems that he’s going to let my game come to me. He said they see me as a 3/4 combo and allow me to lead the break. I can take guys outside and then go in against smaller guys in the post.”
As part of the first class without any sort of Division restrictions, Williams said he is looking forward to be a piece of history at NKU.
“All the guys seem like great players. It seems like a good class and it is exactly where I want to be,” Williams said.
He also considered Miami OH, Eastern Kentucky, St. Joseph’s and Bowling Green.
