Tyson Carter set to see three programs
One of the major blowups candidates this past July, Tyson Carter has seen a giant uptick with his recruitment. The Starkville High product stands at 6’3 and brings a wealth of abilities in the backcourt. He can be played on and off the ball and is a threat each time he touches the floor in nailing several perimeter bombs. Hoop Seen caught up with the Mississippi native in getting the breakdown on where things stand at the very moment.
Before the summer months began, the only official visit that Carter had in hand was from Murray State, which was obsolete as the program’s head coach, Steve Prohm, had left and gone to Iowa State. However, with giant showings at the NY2LA Summer Jam and the Adidas Championships during the final two weekends of July, Carter saw things change practically overnight.
Now with offers in hand from such highly successful programs like Ohio State, Baylor, Illinois, Indiana, UNLV, Iowa State, and Miami, Carter is more than enthused with how his breakout few weeks occurred. “I think it went way better than I expected. I knew I wanted to do really well in July but I didn’t think I would do that good.”
Good is an understatement with how the MBA Hoops guard played. Now with a long list of quality suitors clamoring for a signature out of him, Carter has set up a few official visits, though he is getting close to narrowing down his schools to a condensed list.
“I plan on visiting Mississippi State on September 12, Arizona State on September 26, and then Miami on October 3. I also plan on scheduling two more.”
With an in-home visit scheduled with NC State on September 10, Carter has a good comprehension of what he is looking for in a school. “Just a place where I’ll have the best opportunity to play and be successful.”
While Carter can be seen primarily as a shooting guard, he did show some upside and potential in being used as a facilitating lead guard at the next level. Asked what he brings to the table, the senior guard was right to the point. “Somebody who can put the ball in the basket and has a high IQ.”
With three official visits lined up, including one to his hometown Mississippi State, a program that his father played at during his college days, it should be an interesting recruitment from here on out as programs from both sides of the nation are vying for the commitment out of the heady and productive combo guard this fall.
