Tre Evans goes through the process
On July 22, deep in the heart of the busy open periods that consume college coaches and future college ballplayers, Tre Evans, a 2016 guard out of Putnam City West High in Oklahoma, popped back on the board after rescinding his commitment to Oklahoma State. The constant need for ball handlers can never be overstated and while the 6’1 senior may not hold any offers just yet, the phone hasn’t stopped ringing for the gritty and tough floor general.
Playing with the Oklahoma Wizards on the Adidas circuit and next to Lindy Waters, a 6’6 wing that we examined earlier this week, Evans had a solid stat line during his time on the grassroots circuit this past year. Averaging over 12 points with close to four rebounds per game, Evans brings good size and a strong body to the point guard spot on the floor. He isn’t super athletic but is tough-nosed on the drive to the basket and is someone that can be molded into handling the ball in late game, crunch-time situations.
Having originally committed to Oklahoma State on October 24, Evans noted on why the break-up from the in-state program. “I wanted to be able to take all of my visits and I want to go somewhere I can have an immediate impact at the point guard spot.”
Now open and considering all options, Evans seems to have a decent feel with what he might be looking for in a future college home. “I want the opportunity to be the lead guard and the 2, if needed. I also want a school where the coaching staff is going to believe in me.”
With OK State now in the rearview, several schools have noticed the Oklahoma Wizards product. “I have heard from SMU, OU, OSU, Arkansas, Arizona State, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Houston, Tulsa, Tennessee, Loyola, and Baylor.” While no offers have been received just yet, Evans did mention that the majority of those he is speaking with will be in to see him once open gyms reconvene.
Heady, tough, and consistent, as lead guards pop off the board, expect for many more programs to get on board with the floor general out of Edmond, Oklahoma, and a late signing to occur come April for Tre Evans.
