Originally a member of the 2016 Virginia recruiting class, Sacha Killeya-Jones slowly stepped away from his commitment to the ACC program back in the spring before being blown away with an array of offers. However, things changed once Kentucky and UNC stepped to the forefront of the recruitment of the Virginia Episcopal School big man and on Wednesday, Killeya-Jones ended things by making a commitment to John Calipari and his Wildcats program.

At 6’9 and with an evolving body and skillset, one thing that has been held against the Chapel Hill native has been how tough he really is. More finesse and skilled than rough and tough inside, the progressions Killeya-Jones made over the past few months were beyond impressive. He had a solid few days at the NBPA Camp, going against the very best throughout the land back in June. However, he ended the summer circuit on the best note possible as he was unbelievable during his stay in Las Vegas in competing with the Team Loaded Virginia 17-under crew in helping the squad win the Adidas Championships.

While Killeya-Jones would have been an outstanding fit at Virginia and under Tony Bennett’s system, the work that the Chapel Hill product has put into his game over the past few months should allow for the senior forward to produce fairly well and early in Lexington.

Killeya-Jones can face you up and score from 15-feet and in and even has a Dirk Nowitzki-like, one-legged jumper from 12-feet that seems to be his bread and butter. He has decent footwork with his back to the bucket and doesn’t lack for composure and patience in reading the play with his back to the basket. His durability and lateral skills are good in guarding the ball screen appropriately and whenever things do speed up, the VES senior big man can remain productive.

Joining New Zealand native and commit Tai Winyard as a member of the 2016 class for Kentucky, expect for Calipari and his crew to go guard and wing heavy the next few weeks and months as they are heavily entranced with the likes of Kobi Simmons, Markelle Fultz, and De’Aaron Fox.
