Koby McEwen set to take visits

A few weeks back at the Adidas Nations event in Long Beach, California, some of the very best talent from across the globe descended upon the main floor at Cerritos College before a collection of American bred ballplayers took home the championship. However, it was a Canadian born talent that plays out his high school days on US terrain, which might have been the biggest revelation at the entire camp.

Suiting up for his native Canadian squad, Koby McEwen had the quite the few days out in Cali. Planning on attending Wasatch Academy this fall, of which is located in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, McEwen put on quite the show in scoring the basketball and in guarding the rock. Finishing third within the entire event of participants in scoring the basketball and leading the entire field in steals per game, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 21 points, five boards, three steals, and 2.8 assists. He also shot close to 50% from the field and made 21 out of his 24 foul shot attempts. Add that all up and you’d expect the rising senior to be quite the pursued prospect at the moment.

Running for CIA Bounce on the Nike circuit this past summer, McEwen and his unit didn’t have its best of months as they failed to make the coveted Peach Jam in July. However, a few schools have made him feel needed and wanted. “I am still open but I have three schools on me the hardest!” Which three might those be? Wake Forest, Utah State, and Georgia Tech have done the most commendable job on the Canadian guard and because of it, will receive visits.

“So far, I have a Wake Forest visit set up for August 28, Utah State for September 2, and Georgia Tech. I think it is from September 11-13, but I am not sure right now.” With three visits on the horizon, could a commitment ensue? “I don’t know. I’ll commit whenever it feels right.”

Planning on majoring in either entrepreneurship or kinesiology, McEwen does have a few things he is looking for in selecting a future home. “Playing time, the right fit towards my playing style, the coaching staff working endlessly in getting me better and to the next level. Also, a great school environment and whatever I want to major in.”

Heading off to school in a few weeks for his senior campaign, McEwen is someone that a lot of schools might have wished they followed more diligently. The Canadian can score the ball in bunches, is tough at the basket on finishes through contact, and is more than capable of producing on both sides of the ball, reflected by his stat lines at the Adidas Nations a few weeks back. Whether a commitment is on the horizon or not, it would seem as if the Demon Deacons, Aggies, and Yellow Jackets have parlayed themselves into a solid standing with the 6’3 guard out of Toronto.
