Jamir Moultrie sees stock heat up
A native of Bowie, Maryland, junior guard Jamir Moultrie has become a commodity recruit at the lead spot in the 2017 class. With a college ready body already evident and fine facilitating abilities at his fingertips, HoopSeen caught up with the Bishop McNamara guard as the productive floor general gave a quick rundown on how his summer went and where things stand with his recruitment.
Suiting up for the DC Thunder 16-under squad this past summer on the Adidas circuit, Moultrie spoke on how he felt like the open periods in July went. “My summer went really well. I thought it went really well. I picked up a few more offers and became a much better player mentally.”
With a killer mid-range pull-up game that he elevates on with the best of them, Moultrie is difficult to stop whenever he gets the line to the basket. With an improving physique, a body that his coach has been vocal about in getting into the weight room, it seems as if Moultrie’s athleticism as become better where his scoring prowess at the basket has gotten a lot more efficient. Due to his improving game and productivity, schools have taken notice. “My last few offers I have gotten have been from Rhode Island, La Salle, Delaware, George Washington, and Monmouth.”
The offer from George Washington came during the junior guard’s visit to the campus last Monday and Moultrie spoke on what he thought of the A10 program. “I like the coaches and the facilities. They just told me that they’re going to come out for some games, so we will see how it goes.”
To go along with his handful of recent offers, Moultrie rattled off further interest from the likes of Florida, West Virginia, James Madison, Baylor, Clemson, and St. Joe’s. With a recruitment that is expanding by the day, could an early commitment occur from the DMV recruit? “If the right school offers me, I could definitely see myself committing but I am willing to wait and go through my options.”
With visits set for James Madison on September 5, Virginia Tech on September 12, Georgia Tech on October 3, and two more to be settled upon in October to Old Dominion and Monmouth, the McNamara guard gave insight of what he will be looking for in a future home at the college level. “Definitely building a relationship with the coaches, a place that is relatively close to home, and an up-tempo playing style.”
Whether an early commitment does ensue or not, whichever college that Moultrie chooses is one that should expect an ever-improving guard who brings loads of leadership qualities and a workman’s like approach to the hardwood each time that he sets foot onto the floor.
