Auburn offers, lands McLemore
Anfernee McLemore trimmed his list to seven at the start of the week and called Bruce Pearl to let him know the Tigers were in the mix.
Leave it to Pearl, one of the best closers in the business, to not be satisfied with making the final seven. According to EJ Brown, McLemore’s long time coach with the Albany Tigers travel program, said Pearl sealed the deal on Tuesday night.
“(Pearl) spoke to Anfernee tonight and let him know again that the offer was there and they were ready for him. So, Anfernee accepted it. He shut it down after it that and wants to be an Auburn Tiger,” Brown said.
McLemore took an unofficial visit about a month ago to Auburn and came away impressed with the campus and the quick two-hour drive from home nearly Albany, Georgia.
“He got to meet some of the staff and trainers and their weight program. That was impressive to him. I think he liked what he saw with the facilities and dorms they had,” Brown said. “He was recruited by a lot of great universities and it came down to location.”
Brown said McLemore also strongly considered Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Rice, Yale, Rhode Island and Brown.
“All of those places are great institutions so he really couldn’t lose,” Brown said. “Two hours away and play in SEC. Hard to beat that.”
