Summer Jam Spotlight: Micah Kinsey
Brookwood High School (GA) point guard Micah Kinsey has a bit of a home court advantage here at Suwanee Sports Academy. The class of 2017 floor general was outstanding at the HoopSeen Fall League last year. Playing with the Smyrna Stars on the travel circuit, Kinsey is doing what he does well - play his position with efficiency.
At the HoopSeen Summer Jam, Kinsey is off to a hot start with Smyrna and racked up a pair of good outings to open things up. The 5-foot-11 guard mixes on the ball toughness on defense with a blend of creative and simple passing.
“I think a lot of players try to play well on offense so that’s why I want to be a great defender,” Kinsey said. “I think a lot of people think (offense is) the only thing (college) coaches look for.”
Kinsey played well at the Best of the South and already playing like one of the best point guards in the Summer Jam. The rising junior, though, remains self-critical in his own development.
“I’m a little on and off,” Kinsey said. “I need to work on being more consistent. But I’m still very confident in my game. I feel like no one can stop me off the dribble but I have a lot to keep working on, too.”
Kinsey said he’s excited about his recruitment spring up. To date, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, TCU, The Citadel and VMI are all interested.
