Several schools are making moves for Killeya-Jones
Since re-opening his recruitment from Virginia last month, 2016 Charlottesville (VA) Virginia Episcopal School power forward Sacha Killeya-Jones has been a popular player for several top-notch programs. Dozens of coaches targeted and watched him during the UA Association Finals.
“I think a couple of schools are making me a priority,” Killeya-Jones told HoopSeen.com. “Florida has been at every game with two or three coaches. Kentucky has been at pretty much every game, and Duke has been there, too. And North Carolina has been here a lot.”
With offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgetown, NC State, Maryland, Kansas, Florida, Notre Dame, and Wake Forest, along with heavy interest from Duke, college coaches have big aspirations for Killeya-Jones in the future. In fact, one coach sees a comparison to a current NBA All-Star.
“Coach [John] Calipari sees me as an Anthony Davis type player and if I keep developing I can be really good. He offered me a scholarship when I visit Kentucky two weeks ago. They have been following me a lot lately. They have been at most of my games and Coach Cal watched me at the UA All-American Camp. Obviously, they develop a lot of bigs, so I am interested.”
Florida has also made their interest widely noted. New head coach Mike White was accompanied by several assistants at a couple of the 6-foot-10 big man’s games last weekend.
“I like Coach White a lot. They’ve been telling me about how they played at Louisiana Tech and how they want to play an up-tempo style of play. The location is really nice too, but I really love the coaching staff,” he explained.
Duke also closely monitored Killeya-Jones during the first two July evaluation periods. While an offer has not been extended yet, it could come at the end of the summer.
“Duke sees me as a stretch 4 type. They think if I keep getting better I can come in and compete for minutes right away. They just tell me I need to keep getting stronger.”
With plenty of high interest coming at him from all directions, Killeya-Jones does not have a timetable for a commitment or cutting down his list.
