Javien Williams says yes to UAB

2016 Woodlawn (AL) shooting guard Javien Williams, the No. 2 rising senior in the state of Alabama, is officially off the board. He ended his recruitment Monday by giving a verbal commitment to UAB.

“UAB is really close to home,” Williams told HoopSeen.com. My family can go to all the home games. I really like the coaching staff, too. They have a great group of guys who just won the Conference USA tournament. I’m excited to join them.”

Williams had a stellar spring and summer, as he went from virtually unknown on the recruiting scene to one of the top prospects in the Southeast. He racked up plenty of points for the Birmingham Storm at Suwanee Sports Academy this spring. You can expect more scoring at UAB, too.

“Coach [Jerod] Haase and the coaches just told me that their offense would be a perfect fit for me. They can put me in a lot of scoring situations on the wing. They think I can help the team.”

Prior to AAU season, the 6-foot-4 guard was also a standout at the inaugural Alabama Elite Preview. He proved he was one of the top prospects in the state with his size, quickness, and all-around scoring ability.

“The Alabama Elite Preview was great. It really helped me out recruiting wise. Garrett and HoopSeen really looked out for me,” he said.

Williams is the first commitment for the Blazers in the 2016 class.

He is the second player from Alabama to make his college choice. Josh Langford committed to Michigan State last month.
