Ibi Watson states his case
There wasn’t a more impressive player at Best of the South than 2016 All-Ohio Red shooting guard Ibi Watson. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard rose his stock as much as anyone did during the event. In fact, the summer riser came away with the MVP award.
“I thought I had a great weekend. I shot the ball pretty well and did whatever it took to help the team win,” Watson told HoopSeen.com. “I’m blessed and honored to get the MVP award and be able to help my team win.”
Coming into the event, Watson held a number of mid-major scholarship offers. Toledo, Bowling Green, Duquesne, Dayton, Miami (OH), Akron, Ohio, and UMass all had offered. Western Kentucky also extended an offer right after the event, but a couple of high-major programs monitored his play during the first evaluation period.
Coaches from Michigan and Indiana both kept a close eye on the rising senior at #BOTS. Indiana officially offered Watson shortly after his stellar weekend. He visited Bloomington last month.
“Indiana was great. They have a beautiful campus, so I had a great time. We did a lot of fun stuff. They keep telling me to keep working on being more physical as a player.”
The next offer to come could be Michigan. Wolverines’ head coach John Beilein watched Watson in Atlanta and Milwaukee. The shooter recently visited Ann Arbor, too.
“My Michigan visit was great. I love their coaching staff and they have awesome facilities. They have been wanting to see me play hard and be aggressive each game.
With one more evaluation period on the calendar, a decision could be coming soon for Watson.
“I want to have a decision before the high school season,” he said. With time running out in his recruitment, it’s safe to say both Indiana and Michigan will be prime factors in his recruitment.
