Georgia Breakout Players

Every year, players break out, raise their stock, and prove they can play at a certain level. Here are three players from Georgia who did that this summer:

Ikey Obiagu, Georgia Stars

There is absolutely no doubt that anyone in the state, or maybe even the nation, has raised their stock more since the end of the high school season than Obiagu. On a Greenforest team with a number of quality big men, Obiagu blended in for a majority of the season. Then down the stretch of the season, he had big time performances in the state semifinals and finals, which showed a lot of promise. Then the HoopSeen Elite Preview happened. The 7-footer not only the respect of every elite big man in the state, but he gained the attention of national writers from a number of sites. He continued his good play all summer, becoming one of, if not the best shot blocker in the nation. Obiagu impacted every single game that he stepped on the floor this summer with his ability to block and alter shots. He is now a top 30 recruit in the nation and has gained offers from Kansas, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt, among other high-major schools along his climb up the rankings.

Collin Sexton, Southern Stampede

Not necessarily an unknown commodity coming into the summer, Sexton had become lost in the shuffle among the elite players in a loaded Georgia 2017 class. However, he proved that he belongs in the talks with some of the best guards in the state. With an uncanny ability to put the ball in the basket, Sexton established himself as one of the top scoring guards in the class. He was fantastic this year with the Southern Stampede 16U team and in the transition to the17U team late in the summer. Sexton put himself in the high major conversation with his performances this summer. He is now holding the interest of a number of high major schools and holds offers from Kansas State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Old Dominion, and Tulane.

Rodney Chatman, Q6 All Stars

A big time sleeper in the high school season, Chatman is still flying somewhat under the radar in the state of Georgia. The Lithonia guard played very well with the Q6 All Stars this summer, including a great July that gained him access onto the radars of a number of low and mid major schools in the southeast. Chatman came into the summer holding an offer from Arkansas State and through his play this summer has gained more offers from Mercer, East Tennessee State, Chattanooga, Radford, and Samford. He is a guard that does not get as much love as he deserves in Georgia and will be a name to watch in the upcoming high school year, as he could build on his momentum and lead Lithonia to a good season.
