#Gibbons Top 17U performers, part 3
The 17 and under division of the 2015 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions was absolutely loaded with talent. We’ll spend the rest of the week looking at the top performers from the tournament. Here’s round 3:
Darius Allen, SG, Team M.O.A.M., 2016: “Hey have you seen No. 4 on M.O.A.M.?” That was a question that was thrown around quite a bit during Gibbons weekend. The highly athletic guard from Florida Air Academy was a high-wire act all weekend long and he played a huge role in his team’s huge success in the loaded 17 and under bracket. If you’re looking for a sleeper in July to watch, put Allen high on the list. He was terrific with the ball, showed that he’s a capable scorer/shooter and one of the best attack guards in the field. - JY
Chevez Goodwin, PF/C, Upward Stars, 2016: Like Brison Gresham of Elfrid Payton Elite, Goodwin was one of the better big men in the field and owned his match-ups against comparable size and talent. The 6-foot-8 big man could be a nice July riser for programs in the South that are still trying to find a talented post. Goodwin has a pretty good developed offensive game that can stretch to the elbows. He even knocked down a number of threes over the course five games played. His bread and butter is athleticism and size in the post. There’s a lot of intrigue there and worth charting during the next live evaluation period. - JY
Christian Keeling, SG, Team Power, 2016: It has been a consistently strong start to the spring for the Augusta (GA) Laney guard. He’s proven himself as a go-to perimeter shooter/scorer all the while a guy that anchors a squad that knows how to win. Shooters with size that win? Those guys are always in demand. Keeling is entering the summer on a high note. - JY
Jordan Lyons, SG, Heat Check, 2016: We know this much about Lyons already - elite shooter, elite scorer, elite winner, high basketball IQ, absolutely produces and can change a game with his three-point range. We saw all of that at Gibbons. What continues to improve but not discussed enough is his improving athleticism and, moreover, how he is using it to add new dimension to his offensive game. Lyons has shown more of an attempt to score in the paint and at the rim. He’s finding more success than every before. A more diversified approach has expanded his production. It has been fun to watch play out. - JY
D’Marcus Simonds, SG, Heat Check, 2016: Simonds was back with his old running mates playing with Heat Check again. Simonds was very good scoring the basketball, both in transition and in the half court. Like always, Simonds got to the rim at will, but he also shot it well from deep. Simonds also looked good on the other end of the floor, locking down on defense. - CW
