#Gibbons: 17U Story Starters
One of the great things about the 2015 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions was the sheer amount of talent that played their way into the conversation. Here’s who started their story at the prestigious event.
Jules Jasmin, SG, SAS, 2017: Jasmin was one of the early standouts at Bob Gibbons on Friday night. He was a one man wrecking crew on offense, getting to the rim whenever he wanted to. And when he was at the rim, he put on a show finishing plays. From high flying dunks to finishing strong through contact, Jasmin scored it as well as anyone in the 17U division this weekend. With little to speak of recruiting-wise, expect for that to change for the 2016 wing from Palm Beach. - CW
Shamarkus Kennedy, PF, Southeast Elite, 2016: Kennedy may be undersized to play the 4, but what he lacks in size is made up by his athleticism. The 6-foot-7 forward plays like he is on a pogo stick with his jumping ability. He was one of the best shot-blockers in attendance this weekend. His athleticism and upside will make him an intriguing player for coaches to track. - GT
Davion Mintz, SG, Charlotte Nets, 2016: A combo guard with good size, Mintz showed the ability to score the ball very well from all levels this weekend. He shot it well from deep and got into the paint, finishing at the rim as well as with a nice pull up jump shot. However, he also proved he has a well rounded game. Mintz was one of the top rebounding guards that we saw all weekend at Bob Gibbons, a skill which is much undervalued among guards. Mid majors should keep the North Mecklenburg’s prospect on their radar. - CW
Kevin Morris, PF, Southeast Elite, 2016: Morris proved he was one of the best rebounding players at Gibbons throughout the weekend. The 6-foot-8 big man does a great job of using his body and strength to over-power opposing players. He was able to get easy baskets off of trash buckets, too. With great hands and a very good set of grades, Morris’ stock will only go up. - GT
Mike Sagay, SF, Game Elite, 2016: Sagay first came onto the scene for me at the Elite Preview, so I'm glad I got to see him again at Gibbons. At 6'5" Sagay is a long wing with great athleticism. As he continues to improve from a jump-shooting standpoint, I don't see any reason why mid-major offers won't start rolling in. - KK
