Final 2015 Alabama rankings

With the 2014-15 high school season in the books and in the rear-view mirror, we decided it was time to close out the Class of 2015 rankings in Alabama. After another entertaining year of basketball, these prospects are expected to have productive careers at the next level.

INGRAM TAKES TOP SPOT

After a decorated senior season, Theodore’s Dazon Ingram earned the No. 1 spot in the 2015 rankings. The 6-foot-4 guard distanced himself from the competition throughout the year, whether it was during regular season games, the Steel City Invitational or the state playoffs.

Ingram averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists for Theodore en route to their first state semifinal appearance. While he and his teammates came up short in winning a 7A state championship, Ingram was awarded Mr. Basketball last week. He was also named 7A Player of the Year and named First Team All-State.

At one time, Ingram was committed to Alabama. After the firing of Anthony Grant, the start lefty re-opened his recruitment. The Crimson Tide is well in the picture with new coach Avery Johnson, and a decision from Ingram is expected next week.

FINAL 2015 ALABAMA RANKINGS

THE BEST OF THE REST

Future Alabama big man Donta Hall comes in at No. 2 in the final 2015 rankings. The season ended earlier than many expected for Hall and his talented Luverne High School squad, but the 6-foot-9 big averaged an impressive 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 12 blocks per game. Hall should be able to make an immediate impact in Tuscaloosa, as Alabama will need help in the frontcourt. Don’t expect him to be a big offensive threat, but Hall will make his mark on the defensive end of the floor for the Crimson Tide.

Gerron Scissum, a versatile forward from Lee-Huntsville, checks in at No. 3. Scissum helped lead the Generals to the state finals, where they eventually lost to Carver-Montgomery. The 6-foot-8 combo forward is skilled for his size and can play inside and out. After a couple of nice showings during the fall, Scissum elevated his game and became one of the most sought-after prospects in the state. He has yet to make a decision, but Murray State, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, and Maryland are all in play here.

The No. 4 spot on the list belongs to Tuscaloosa County’s talented shot-blocker Cletrell Pope, a Murray State signee. To compete with high-major programs at the next level, Murray State has to bring in athletes that can compete. That effectively describes Pope, as he is a high-level athlete whose best basketball is ahead of him. The 6-foot-8 big man has a chance to make some noise in the future in the OVC.

Rounding out the top 5 is Hazel Green sharpshooter Ethan Stair. The future Mercer Bear averaged 22 points and 15 rebounds per game for the Trojans this year. He is expected to see a decent amount of minutes during his freshman campaign. Each year of his high school career, Stair helped lead Hazel Green to the state regional playoffs. You can expect more winning at the college level for him.

STILL ON THE BOARD

There are a handful of unsigned seniors remaining in the state. With the spring signing period a week away, things could get interesting down the stretch.

Dylan Smith re-opened his recruitment from Texas Pan-American a few weeks ago. The 6-foot-5 combo guard is a high-potential guard at the next level.

Lawson Schaffer, one of the most entertaining players to watch this season, is also still on the board. He earned his first offer from Furman a few weeks ago, but could he end up at Auburn or Alabama? Time will tell.

Lafayette big man Trevond Barnes made some noise during his team’s playoff push. The high-academic prospect is gaining tons of interest after his state championship performance.

HOW THE RANKINGS ARE FORMULATED

The philosophy of our HoopSeen.com rankings is all about projections at the college level. How will these high school players fare at the next level? How does their game translate to the next level? What kind of lasting impact will they have at their future destinations?

Understand this - rankings (no matter where you find them) are totally subjective. There is never a right answer. They are opinions formed over years of evaluations at different settings. We look for a combination of several things - Production, potential, winning pedigree, size, how a player's game translates to the college level, work ethic, and a host of other filters.
