Top performers from the Senior Showcase, part I

It was a great day at Suwanee Sports Academy Cobb with the gym filled with senior players looking to earn their way onto a college roster and a number of coaches with scholarships they were looking to fill. Here are a few of the top performers from the day:

Dwayne Brown, PF/SF, Rockdale High School (pictured above)

Brown was the consensus top performer of the day. The 6-foot-6 wing played with high energy and showcased impressive athleticism. Brown was able to score the ball from all levels, shooting the ball well and also scoring inside with his size. The gym was buzzing after his fantastic play.

Hakeem Anchrum, PF, Wheeler High School

Coming off of a state title, Anchrum was a guy that the HoopSeen staff had close eyes on walking through the door. Well-built and standing at 6-foot-7, he was able to use his size to his advantage on the block. However, where he really shined on the day was in the midrange and on the perimeter, where he shot the ball very well on face-up touches.

Rod English, SF, Johnson (Gainesville) High School

English was one of the state’s better scorers all year long for Johnson and he showed why from the beginning. In his first game, he knocked down four threes in the second half, opening a lot of eyes on the way. He didn’t look back the rest of the day and may have been the top scoring player on the day. The 6-foot-4 lefty can do a little bit of everything on a basketball floor.

Deionte Davis, SF, Norcross High School

Davis was a player that we did not know a ton about, as he did not play this past season at Norcross, but he quickly gained a lot of attention with his play. A big guard, Davis used his size and athleticism on the perimeter to score the ball and defend well all day.

Jaylen Taylor, SF, Laney High School

Taylor was another guy that the HoopSeen staff wanted to keep a close eye on all day, coming off of a terrific season with Laney. The 6-foot-6 wing has a ton of length and athleticism and thrives in a transition game, where he finishes above the rim. Taylor was one of the best athletes in the gym, and he made sure his presence was known both in transition and in the halfcourt.
