Davis lifts Brunswick to AAAAA title game
The old adage is a win is a win.
That saying really applies to Brunswick’s 44-43 semifinal victory over Cedar Shoals.
In a dogfight type of game where both teams were struggling to overcome the other’s defensive pressure, both offenses became a little stagnant.
Brunswick had been limited to 17 points in the first half, with their senior leader Roger Davis only having 4.
However, coming out of the gate in the second half, the Pirates looked toward Davis to give them an offensive boost.
And Davis responded.
Getting touches on nearly every possession, Davis showed his versatility and gave Brunswick 16 big second half points while also handling and distributing the ball as rebounding and blocking shots.
That big second half was barely enough to overcome a more balanced effort from Cedar Shoals and D’Andre Mahaffey, Greg Smith, and Jerrick Mitchell.
It took a Roger Davis free throw in a tie game with 8 seconds left and a steal of an inbounds pass to finally push the Pirates to the state title game, where they will take on Allatoona.
