Storylines from Regions 3 & 7 AAAAAA Championships
Carter Wilson was at two of the biggest region championship games of the week on Friday and Saturday nights, respectively. Here were his lessons learned from the action.
Clemson is getting a really good one in Ty Hudson
The Pebblebrook senior point guard was fantastic for the Falcons; however, it’s not about the “wow factor” with Hudson. He simply makes the right plays and knows what to do in any situation. He controlled tempo and emotion and when plays needed to be made, he answered the call either with his scoring or distributing. He’ll be a good fit for the Tigers in the ACC.
Trhae Mitchell is an elite level defender
A lot can be said about Pebblebrook offensively, and rightfully so with the scoring power that they have from a number of high major recruits. However, one of the more glaring aspects to the region title game was Trhae Mitchell’s work defensively. He drew the toughest assignment on the floor every trip down and responded. He took a lot of pride in being able to shut down Douglas County’s offensive attack, even looking in the crowd and at his temmates late in the game and mouthing the words “lock down”.
The passing was refreshing to watch
Pebblebrook’s lineup shares the ball very well, and they have a trust with one another and hold each other accountable on the offensive end. The ball moves with ease for the Falcons, which will make them a very tough out in the coming weeks. On the other side, I am ready to say that Brandon Robinson is one of, if not the best passer in Georgia in 2016. Robinson has a great feel for the game and is a very willing a capable distributor. With his size at the guard position and a skill set that does not have a glaring weakness, he will be fun to watch in the playoffs and over the next year.
Norcross’ Seniors Come Through
In their title game against Duluth, the game was slow and Norcross was struggling to score due to limited possessions. In the second half, their seniors contributed a part to help get the W. Ricky Madison really lifted the Devils with his scoring, totaling 23 for the game. Tim Cameron brought his energy to force some turnovers and speed the game up. And Devin Huffman hounded Duluth guard Anthony Showell, who had been causing Norcross some problems, through the 4th quarter.
Rayshaun Hammonds Could Be The Big Riser of the Summer
The Norcross sophomore forward has a chance to really make a name for himself on the circuit this summer. Hammonds is the definition of versatility and at 6-foot-7 with a great skill set, he has the potential to separate himself into an elite class with some of the other elite high major guys in 2017’s class.
