What to watch at GACS Showcase
On Saturday, the GACS Showcase presented by Blue Collar Basketball is an event that features many of the top teams in the state as well as teams looking to make their mark. Here are a few things to watch for at Greater Atlanta Christian on Saturday:
Can Laney Continue Their Success?
The Wildcats have walked through the fire already this year, having played arguably the toughest schedule in the state. That walk continues Saturday against perennial powerhouse Norcross, who is on the hunt for a signature win. Laney wants to continue their climb up the Power Poll and try to put themselves in the debate for the state’s top team. Norcross is looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss to rival Collins Hill. This one will be fun.
McIntosh’s Talented Trio
The Chiefs make the trip up to Gwinnett County just as they did every week for our HoopSeen Fall League, where we became more acquainted with their three-headed attack of Jordan Lyons, Will Washington, and Dishon Lowery. McIntosh will come into Saturday with an unblemished record, but will face their toughest test of the young season in host team GAC.
The Position Matchups of Pebblebrook-Greenforest
Looking down the line at these two teams gives us some great matchups. It starts with the backcourts, where Pebblebrook’s Ty Hudson, Jared Harper, and Trhae Mitchell take on Greenforest Christian’s John Ogwuche, Justin Ravenel, and Justin Forrest. As good as the backcourt matchup is, the frontcourt is just as good. Pebblebrook center and UGA signee Derek Ogbeide as well as Kevin Murph match up against a deep front line for Greenforest with the likes of Precious Ayah, Baybe Iyiola, and Victor Enoh.
Underrated Backcourt Battle
Don’t sleep on the Peachtree Ridge-Berkmar game. This game between Gwinnett County foes features some guards that don’t get as much love across the state, but can really get after it. Peachtree Ridge point man Aaron Augustin has been impressive early in his junior campaign and is joined by his backcourt mates Milz Tatum and Connor Heyward. Berkmar’s Lane Foster and Al Durham will go toe-to-toe with them all day.
