Unveiling the Florida 2015, 2016 rankings

There is no denying the amount of talent in the state of Florida for college basketball prospects. Year after year, the Sunshine State is home to dozens of Division I basketball players. College recruiters flock to the fertile state to try and woo the high level athletes to their respective schools all over the country.

In talking to the pundits of note in Florida and college coaches that have a finger on the pulse of talent in the state, there was a common theme when talking about the 2015 class - holy depth! You can make an argument that Florida is the richest Division I talent state in the country for the senior class.

We went to 35 players for our first go round at ranking the class of 2015. It was a difficult task because the talent is just so good.

Players from Florida came to our travel team events at Suwanee Sports Academy during the grassroots season and we've spent some good time in the state watching players on their home courts. This ranking is, of course, just an opinion.

FAMILIAR FACES GO 1, 2, 3

Montverde Academy forward Ben Simmons comes in at No. 1, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The Australian is No. 1 nationally by a number of recruiting services already. The future LSU player was a no-brainer lock for the top spot.

Antonio Blakeney at No. 2 was also an easy decision. The five-star guard is one of the most attractive scorers in the nation and his recruitment reflects that. The Orlando Oak Ridge guard was one of the most exciting players to play at our events in 2013 and 2014.

Deng Adel of Victory Rock Christian comes in at No. 3 overall in Florida. The future Louisville wing  is one of the most difficult players to defend nationally.

HI, MY NAME IS...

Fresh off a move to the United States, 6-foot-10 forward Yankuba Sima checks in at No. 4. Now at Jacksonville's Arlington Country Day, the international star was one of our favorite prospects that we saw at the various fall showcases we've been to this year. Sima is already projected as a first round NBA Draft pick by Draft Xpress. Sima comes in at No. 4 overall and will be a nationally recruited prospect. Louisville, Baylor and Maryland are already in there deep.

Sima's ACD teammate Tulio da Silva, a South Florida commitment, comes in at No. 7 overall. The muscular 6-foot-8 power forward is a steal for USF and one of the toughest players we saw this fall.

Sima and da Silva are not ranked anywhere else from a Florida rankings or even nationally other than here on HoopSeen.com.

NUMBERS TO CHEW ON

Of the 35 seniors that are ranked, there are only seven that remain uncommitted. That's an amazing ratio by comparison to other states in the South. Georgia, for example, only has 18 commitments of the top 35 ranked seniors. Florida, as we noted in the intro, is loaded with talent and the college coaches are not afraid to dive head first into the talent.

To that end, here's a conference breakdown of where the talent from Florida is headed:

ACC - 6 commits
SEC, AAC - 4 commits
Big 10 - 3 commits
Big East, Big 12, Pac-12 - 2 commits
Atlantic 10, CAA, Conference USA, Ivy, Mountain West - 1 commit

Diving deeper into the prospect pool, we decided to roll out our top 25 for the junior class. Truth be told, it was a much harder task. Much, much harder.

For our top eight players, it was our belief the gap between each player was minimal. In fact, we tossed around our top 5 for the top overall player in the state. It was not an easy task of slotting them into any sort of order.

That's a good thing, too. The race for the top should be competitive moving forward. Udoka Azubuike of Jacksonville's Potter's House comes in at No. 1. The 6-foot-10, 275-pound Shaq-like post presence is one of the biggest, nastiest and strongest players in prep basketball regardless of class.

We went against groupthink some and put Bartow's Tony Bradley at No. 2 overall. The 6-foot-9 center was as good of an offensive post player we have seen all 2014 on the travel circuit, in high school hoops and at player showcases. His game is very similar to former McDonald's All-American Randolph Morris of Kentucky fame.

Dewan Huell of Miami Norland comes in at No. 3, Jonathan Isaac of International School of Broward is No. 4 and Juwan Durham is at No. 5. Like we mentioned, the gap between each player is minimal. Each player could very well leap frog the other any given day.
