The Tucker Topics: Oct. 8

College basketball season is officially underway with programs now practicing. That also means that it is time for midnight madness festivities, which equals tons of prospects taking visits. Before long, more dominoes will fall on the recruiting trail.

MADNESS FOR KU & MIZZOU

Midnight madness season is one of my favorite things about college basketball, and Kansas, one of the best in the business, will host "Late Night in the Phog" this weekend. With Kansas' hallowed history and success, this has become one of the most popular midnight madness festivities in college basketball. Bill Self and his staff have used this event to their advantage in the past, and they will look to do so again this weekend.

The firepower that the Jayhawks are scheduled to have on campus is mind-boggling. They will have close to 20 (yes, TWENTY) top 50 players in the country in attendance on Friday night, ranging from 2015 to 2017 recruits.

Here's a breakdown by class:

2015: Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, Cheick Diallo, Tyler Dorsey, Carlton Bragg, Stephen Zimmerman, and Marus LoVett.

2016: Malik Monk*, Marques Bolden, Jayson Tatum (pictured above), Tyler Cook, Schnieder Herard*, and Nick Rakocevic.

2017: Michael Porter*, Troy Brown, Mitchell Ballock*, Trae Young, and DaMonte Williams.
*Still awaiting official confirmation on their attendance

Some of the aforementioned recruits will double-dip and also visit Missouri on Saturday. While new head coach Kim Anderson doesn't have as many players scheduled to visit, he and his staff have done an impressive job gearing up for this weekend.

The Tigers are expected to have seniors Antonio Blakeney and Isaiah Briscoe on campus this weekend. Jayson Tatum, Miles Bridges, Curtis Jones, Ted Kapita, and Tyler Cook are also scheduled to visit.

BIG RECRUITING WINS FOR THE ACC

A couple of the potential up-and-coming teams in the ACC received huge commitments from talented big men over the past few days.

There's a buzz beginning at Virginia Tech, and it has everything to do with coach Buzz Williams. The former Marquette head coach made big plays on the recruiting trail while manning the Golden Eagles and it looks like things will be the same in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech received a commitment from 2015 power forward Kerry Blackshear. The 6-foot-8 versatility machine made quite the leap on the national radar this AAU season. Buzz needed some future post presence for the Hokies, and he has a nice start with the Florida native.

There could possibly be another commitment for the Hokies coming up. Justin Robinson, a point guard, is expected to announce a decision soon, and Virginia Tech looks to be favored in this one. They also appear to be in good shape with Florida shooting guard C.J. Williamson.

This morning, Danny Manning also received a monumental commitment at Wake Forest, as 2015 Montverde Academy (FL) big man Doral Moore made his commitment to the Demon Deacons.

The 7-foot Moore has as much potential as any big man in his class. His length, shot-blocking ability, and evolving offensive arsenal is something Manning will be able to work with for years to come.

The most impressive thing here is who Wake Forest beat out for Moore's services. At one point, Kentucky was thought to be the favorite, and Illinois came on strong, too. Ohio State and Texas were also involved.

Moore joins point guard Bryant Crawford in the Demon Deacons' two-man class.

PROSPECTS MAKING MOST OF FALL SHOWCASES

Over the past few weeks, a number of prospects have been making some noise before the high school season gets here. How so? They have utilized the opportunities of fall showcases/camps.

Two prospects have generated the most talk and separated themselves from the rest in the past two weeks: Yankuba Sima and Blake Harris.

Sima, a Spanish import at Arlington Country Day (FL). made quite an impression to HoopSeen.com's Justin Young at the Dodge Shootout a few weeks ago. The 6-foot-11 big man could be a potential lottery pick in a few years, and college have taken notice. Louisville, Maryland, Baylor, and USF are among the schools involved right now.

Shifting gears some, Blake Harris (pictured above), a sophomore, has plenty of time to take the national stage. However, he took full advantage of the North Carolina Phenom 150 last weekend, an annual event put on by our friends Rick Lewis and Jamie Shaw.

Harris came into camp holding some offers, but an impressive weekend and the power of social media made the 6-foot-2 guard an even more popular prospect. Florida State extended an offer to the 2017 recruit following the camp.

Jamie Shaw had a lot of good things to say about Harris' game: "Blake's greatest attribute is his vision and ability to pass. He has control of the court, plays at a great pace, and creates great angles with the dribble. He may be the best point guard in the country in 2017."

With all of that being said and both of those prospects emerging from the rest of the field, it begs the question, who will take advantage of the Fall Preview this Sunday at Suwanee Sports Academy?

Prospects will have the same opportunity to showcase their talents, just as Sima and Harris did. Will someone take advantage of it?
