Travel Team Spotlight: Alabama Challenge

The Alabama Challenge program is one of the premiere AAU teams in the state. They play on the highest of stages on the grassroots circuit in the Nike EYBL. Throughout the years, dozens of players have went on to play college basketball.

With that being said, here's a look at where the program's players stand right now, including those committed to colleges and some future players to keep an eye on.

WHO'S HEADED WHERE?

Six of the players from last year's Alabama Challenge 17U squad have ended their recruitment and gave verbal commitments to college programs. Three of those players are headed to play for Anthony Grant and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Donta Hall (6'9" PF), Brandon Austin (6'5" SG), and Dazon Ingram (6'5" CG) have all made early pledges to Alabama.

Clay Chalkville point guard Hasan Abdullah will continue his career at Navy, while combo forward Daniel Laster, a native of Pensacola, Florida, will head to Gardner Webb.

Blake Admire, a 6-foot-4 wing, recently made his commitment to Rollins College, a Division-II program in Orlando.

WHO'S LEFT?

The top remaining uncommitted player for the Challenge is power forward Tommy Burton. There have been rumblings of grades being an issue with Burton, but Southeastern Louisiana recently offered the 6-foot-8 forward. Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee, as well as Ole Miss, are also sticking around for right now. Junior College could be in Burton's future, though.

Big man Deion Dozier and point guard Joshua Thomas are the other undecided seniors on the board.

Jacob Winston, another talented guard, has decided to reclass to 2016 in hopes of turning up some more interest. Samford, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee are both very interested in what he has to offer.

WHO TO WATCH FOR IN 2016

The Challenge could have a promising season next year, with a lot of talent returning to the roster. That list is headed by Chipley High School (FL) guard Trent Forrest, who has entered the national spotlight and became one of the top players in the South.

"Trent's work ethic is going to help him at the next level. He is a big guard with a lot of skill, and his work ethic is unbelievable," Jerry Bartley, the Challenge President, told HoopSeen.com.

Carlton Williams, a 6-foot-8 forward with length, just transferred to Carver-Montgomery from Illinois. He is being touted as a special player and one to keep an eye on in the state going forward.

Here are three others to keep an eye on, along with schools who have offered.

- Kevin Morris, 2016 PF, Dothan HS: Offers from Troy, Middle Tennessee, Alabama State.

- Darius Hicks, 2016 F, Quitman HS (MS): Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Troy, Florida State.

- Triston Chambers, 2016 SG, Cold Springs HS: Samford, Furman.

WHO'S GOT NEXT?

The amount of young talent in Alabama is at a premium right now, and the Challenge have some of the best young prospects in the state.

D.J. Heath, a 2017 point guard from Anniston (AL) Sacred Heart, has all the makings of a talented point guard. He brings a bulldog mentality to the game, as he can defend and shutdown players on the perimeter. Add that to his toughness and speed, and Heath is the best point guard prospect in the state for his class.
