Brookwood duo doesn’t mind underdog label

Two state championships, nine region titles, and numerous Division I athletes: That’s what comes to mind when people think about Brookwood. But these attributes belong to the Broncos football program.

Brookwood’s basketball program, on the other hand, does not carry the same amount of weight. That fortune could be on the verge of shifting.

Brookwood is unbeaten in the Hoopseen Fall League, and this class of players has had some success dating back to their middle school Gwinnett Basketball League days.

Two of the guys that could be ones to watch on the Broncos squad are guards Micah Kinsey and Sean Agnant. The pair, who have been best friends since middle school, could be a duo flying under the radar in Gwinnett County.

When asked if they felt they were the underdogs both replied, almost in unison, “Yes, we feel that people sleep on us, but we are a team that is on the rise.”

Kinsey is a lead guard who prides himself on his defense, court vision, and ability to get to the basket. He seems to thrive in the position of the underdog as he has gone up against some of the biggest names the Fall League has had to offer and has not backed down or taken his foot off the gas. It could be argued that Kinsey has been the MVP of the league thus far.

Agnant is his compliment in the Brookwood backcourt and is more of a pure scorer. He is not the most physically imposing guard, but he has a knack for scoring the basketball. He does it from all levels of the floor as he gets to the rim, has a great midrange game, and can shoot it from deep. Best of all, both of them get it done in the flow of the offense and play very unselfishly.

The two have a chemistry between them that is obvious to anyone who watches them play.

“Our main goal is to compete, make some noise, and make the state tournament,” Kinsey said.

Brookwood has not been to the State Playoffs since the 2010-2011 season and have had just one winning season in the last four.  The Fall League has been a great omen in the change of the tide in Snellville.

The pieces of the puzzle are all there for Brookwood, and Kinsey and Agnant will play a vital role in how that puzzle comes together.
