Top Point Guards at Gibbons
Point guards are hard to come by in the class of 2015 and when one pops up, people notice.
Reggie Reid (Southern Kings) – the scoring PG was tough to stop at Gibbons. He’s got good speed to go with a smooth jumper. He has the talent to create shots for himself and for his teammates off the bounce. His recruiting is going to be very interesting. There is shortage of PG’s out there for teams this year and if Reggie continues to play well I would expect MM and HM coaches in need of a PG to take a look.
Malik Maitland (E1T1) – he’s undersized but has a strong frame. He can be a pest for opponents defensively with his quickness and tenacity. He also showed the ability to create shots for himself and his teammates. What sets him apart from other smaller PG’s is his ability to finish in the paint over the big fellas. I would expect MM programs in the south to recruit him but he has roots in NYC so it would not surprise me to see the D1 schools in the Northeast get involved with this talented PG.
Jarrod Heard (Ga Stars) – with UConn commit Will Jackson out last weekend, it fell to Jarrod to lead the Stars. Credit the young man for stepping up and being a catalyst for the Star’s run to the Elite 8. He did a very good job of running the team and making it easy for the Stars main scorers to get good shots while also keeping defenses honest with his ability to shoot and score the ball. He has a good basketball pedigree and plays for one of the top high school basketball programs in the state so I’m surprised there aren’t more schools on this young man but expect that to change the more coaches see him play the Point in July.
Romalus Walker (LA Dynasty) – this quick, scoring PG from Louisiana made an impression at Gibbons. He’s got great speed in transition and the half court to break defenses down and cause havoc on opposing defenses. If he continues to score and create like he did at Gibbons, expect multiple MM offers to appear for this young man.
Chad Culbreath (Nashville Celtics) – the undersized guard from TN showed he could really fill it up at Gibbons. He’s got a stroke and a scorer’s mentality that will catch college coach’s attention. MM programs that put a premium on small guards that can score should take a look at this young man.
