#MarchToMacon: What we learned from AAA championship

Morgan County won the AAA state championship in convincing fashion on Saturday night with a big win over Buford. What did our team of Justin Young and Robert Alfonso, Jr. learn from this match-up? The guys break it down.

Tookie Brown. We didn't learn anything new about the junior guard from Morgan County. We've known about his scoring exploits. That's not surprising. We've known he can put up points in a hurry. We expect that. We've known about his level of clutch. He's proven that over the years. But that kind of performance on that kind of stage? Well, that was just magical. Brown scored 36 points in convincing fashion and the performance will go down as one of the most impressive individual showings in a state championship game. - Justin Young

Buford's turnovers just killed them. The Wolves have done a good job of protecting the basketball in the post-season. But after 10 turnovers in the first quarter, it was difficult to find the road again. Buford never really looked comfortable and Morgan County took advantage of the mistakes and created a lot of transition offense. Buford lost possessions and ultimately lost the ball to points on the other end. It was a double-edged sword all night long for the Wolves. - JY

Defensive switch helps. Adjustments are important in life and in sports. Defensive changes are meant to confuse and give the other team different looks. Morgan County did just that going from its man-to-man pressure, zone defense and everything in between. The changes occasionally disrupted Buford’s offense as it was not able to get comfortable. - Robert Alfonso, Jr.

The Rakim Lubin and CJ Turman matchup did not disappoint. Buford’s Lubin transferred in from Alabama and immediately made an impact. Once he got settled in Lubin became the most dominating player in Region 7. He committed to Connecticut. Turman, who has signed with Tennessee, was always a focal point to the Bulldogs offense. He showed this season that he was more than just a defensive presence. Turman was a force inside on both ends of the floor. Watching these two guys inside it was nice that the officials let them play. If both of their colleges play one another on the next level look for the same physical action. - RA

Morgan County's fan base has won the fans of the season, so far, in the state championships. The Bulldogs packed the Centreplex with a sea of red and voices of thousands. It was a home game for the Bulldogs. And they enjoyed every minute of the magic. - JY
