#MarchToMacon: Region 5-AAAA tough at the top

As the march to Macon proceeds forward, we'll take a look at what we believe is the best region tournament in each of Georgia's six classifications.

In Class AAAA, Region 5 has been a dogfight this season and don't expect anything less moving into the region tournament. This region tournament, by our opinion, is the tops in AAAA. Here's why.

What to watch:

  • How will Alexander perform without star senior Hassani Gravett? The senior tore ligaments his hand in AHS's win over Fayette County. Gravett scored 40 points in the overtime victory. How can the Cougars perform without him? That's the top storyline going into the region tournament.
  • Fayette County has as good of a starting five as any team in the state. The Tigers are big at nearly every position and love to shoot the three.
  • Keep an eye on Chaz Berry of Fayette County. He's one of the biggest sleepers and shooters in the state.
  • Carrollton big man Lamonte Glenn has been one of the most productive players in Class AAAA this season. He's the toughest post to defend in the tournament.
  • Sandy Creek has some big non region wins (Newnan, McIntosh, Whitewater) and has a win over Fayette County. With good balance and good coaching, the Patriots could be playing for a home court advantage come time for the state tournament.
