Tookie ends recruitment early, headed to SEC
Tookie Brown took an unofficial visit to Mississippi State in the early fall and ever since his September trip to Starkville, the junior from Morgan County (Ga.) High School has been thinking about the SEC program. On Sunday, the thoughts came to an end and the 5-foot-10 scorer committed to the Bulldogs.
Brown said his relationship with head coach Rick Ray played a big role in his decision.
"Coach Ray has been there for me ever since day one. They check up on me and when I visited Mississippi State, they made me feel like home," Brown said. "We bonded a lot ever since I stepped foot on campus. I like how he talked about how he helps his players but also how he helps them become grown men, too, on and off the court."
Brown is averaging 25.6 points a game and is one of the very best in the Peach State when it comes to putting the ball through the cylinder. Morgan County is 15-4 on the year. Brown said Ray likes his ability to score.
"He told me that he wants me to get stronger and jump higher but, overall, he said he doesn't really want to change my game," Brown said.
Dante Scott, an Atlanta native now at IMG Academy in Florida, has also given an early commitment
"We've known each other since the seventh grade. We played on the Atlanta Celtics together. I've known him ever since then. It's good (that he's there) because he knows my game and I know his game. I can find him and get him open shots. He knows how to find me, too."
Brown and Morgan County will be back in the Atlanta area on Saturday for a game at Buford. BHS features another Mississippi State target in 2016 scoring guard D'Marcus Simonds.
