Morgan County rolling in 2014
Morgan County came to the Atlanta area after the Christmas break and played very well in the Nike/BMASP Holiday tournament. Paced by junior guard Tookie Brown, the Bulldogs are one of the leaders in Class AAA in Georgia high school hoops.
Brown is one of the best scorers in the Peach State, averaging roughly 26 points a game this season. He was great when it mattered at the Nike tournament and helped his team come from behind against a then undefeated Clarke Central team on Monday.
Brown finished with 22 points, including two huge three-pointers in the fourth quarter to start a comeback that lead to a 76-67 overtime win.
"I feel like I've been playing well. I think I'm doing better than I did last year and I'm getting my team involved," Brown said. "After we came here for that Christmas tournament, we went back and decided that we weren't going to lose again."
Morgan County has lived up to that goal so far, going 6-0 in 2014. Brown has played a significant role in that run.
Brown said he's hearing the most from Virginia, Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi State. Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi State have been in to see him this season.
A return trip to Buford on Feb. 1 is one of the best games left on the schedule this season. The match-up could be a preview of a state championship game.
