Miller Grove backcourt delivers knockout punch past Peachtree Ridge

SUWANEE, GA  - Sharman White stood outside of the Miller Grove locker room after Wolverines beat Peachtree Ridge 69-58 and used three boxing references when talking about the game.

The analogies just made sense as the contest was as physical of a game as we've seen at the Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic.

Peachtree Ridge scored 26 points in the third quarter and entered the final eight minutes with a one point lead over the team many believe to be the most talented group in the state of Georgia.

"We hit them with a couple of blows that our guys thought would just knock them out and make them fall down. I think our guys relaxed a couple of times because they thought (Peachtree Ridge) would be finished. But they took advantage of that and forced us to take bad shots and made some bad turnovers."

Ultimately, there was too much Keith Pinckney and Alterique Gilbert down the stretch for Miller Grove. The two combined for 15 of the Wolverines' 24 fourth quarter points and made some big plays on the defensive end to help seal the victory.

"With those two guys, they are our engine to our car," White said. "They make us go. When they make plays like they made, it puts us in position to wing games. In today's game, whether it's college or the NBA, you have to have two lead guards that can help you on and off the ball. We're lucky to have that in our guys."

Peachtree Ridge had good balance throughout the game, getting 13 points and 11 rebounds from Amir Warnock, 12 from Aaron Augustin, 11 from Milz Tatum and 10 from Darryl Greer.

James Walker scored 10 points and Raylon Richardson pulled down 10 rebounds for Miller Grove.
