Davis off to a hot start at Tri-Cities

Shawntrez Davis understands this whole college prospect thing is a process that has incremental steps. The 6-foot-8 junior from Atlanta's Tri-Cities High School is coming off a good year on the travel circuit and now hopes to apply what he's learned to the high school season.

Davis scored 23 points in his team's 82-56 win over Columbus on Saturday. He played a big role in the victory and showed off a nice offensive game.

"I feel good about going into the season. My team is feeling real good right now," Davis said. "After playing with Game Elite, I feel like I came back with my energy for my high school team."

Davis credits playing alongside Daniel Giddens, John Carlos Reyes and the other Game Elite players for his confidence and improved skill set.

"It helped me really good playing with those guys. I had to improve my shooting, my ball-handling, my post moves. I think I showed it (on Saturday). I had fun out there," Davis said.

"I feel like I'm a lot stronger. I lost 15 pounds and I gained it back in muscle. 219 I feel good around the cup. I'm making better passes. My coach said if I have a shot, then I need to take it. If I miss it, I need to get back and play hard on defense. My coach just keeps telling me there's another play waiting. I've been telling myself that over and over again."

On the recruiting front, things are starting to pick up for Davis. Mississippi State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Alabama and Tennessee have all been to see him in the preseason. Davis went to Georgia Tech's football game against Virginia Tech

"I'm open," Davis said. "I need one more summer season in AAU. I'll worry about that later."
