Peterson commits to Western Carolina's loyalty
For years, Devin Peterson has finally found the loyalty he’s been seeking.
Several colleges courted the Mount Pisgah High product but only one made him a priority. Peterson rewarded them for their effort committing to Western Carolina on Thursday morning. He also considered Wofford, Furman and Tennessee State.
“What really grabbed my attention is the amount of loyalty they showed to me,” Peterson said. “They put a lot of emphasis on how they wanted me and were only going after me as their point guard.”
Since Peterson started playing travel basketball he has been just outside of the conversation of the other solid guards in the state. After a solid high school season with the Patriots, he put together a strong summer with the Atlanta All-Stars and garnered this new attention.
“It felt great,” Peterson said. “Now, I get the spotlight. I have been living under the spotlight behind some of the great point guards in the state of Georgia. Now I get my shine. It’s good to have that feeling.”
As a member of the Georgia Stars 15U team, Peterson was behind Keith Pinckney and Kendall Crute, who has committed to Ohio University. Peterson becomes the first point guard ranked in the Hoopseen Top 30 to commit. He is the 25th player from the Class of 2014 to commit.
“This has been an amazing relief,” the aspiring broadcast journalist said. “I have been looking forward to this since 15U, when this whole process began. It boosted my confidence up a lot.”
