Louisiana Tech lands Florida sleeper
Dayon Griffin had college coaches scrambling in the spring. Who was the athletic wing for the Atlanta Celtics that was attacking the rim, defending the wing and effortlessly scoring? Griffin was a late addition and not in the coaches booklet.
His game left everyone wondering about who the 6-foot-4 guard was. Those that did their homework found that he was a St. Petersburg (FL) High School senior.
Louisiana Tech head coach Mike White did his homework and made the athletic wing a priority. On Friday afternoon, Griffin announced he was ready to join the Bulldog program.
Griffin also strongly considered Florida International and South Florida.
"Their style of play and I know coach White is going to do a great job with the program. It is starting to become a program on the rise and I want to be a part of it," Griffin said.
One of the main reasons Griffin picked the Bulldogs was his friend Jacobi Boykins, who is already committed to the program.
"He kind of helped me decide that Louisiana Tech is what I wanted to do," Griffin said of Boykins. "He said we can do some big things and make some history there."
Together, the Florida duo bring another level of athleticism to the Conference USA program.
"We both can shoot. I can dribble. He's more of a pure scorer with nice go to the basket. I can set people up. So, I think we can work well together."
Griffin was an eye-catcher at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and Wallace Prather Memorial.
