Georgia Native Commits to Wofford

Derrick Brooks had his mind made up on picking a school.

However, before making a decision, the Georgia native wanted to make sure he was loved not just wanted. Brooks felt that in the Palmetto State when he committed to Wofford College on Saturday while on his official visit.

“I like the campus, with a cool staff and good people,” he said. “All of them seemed like they wanted me equally.”

Before committing to the Terriers, Brooks list was down to UMass, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Boston and Florida International. His mind was set on going to Massachusetts, but it just didn’t feel right to him. This was enough for him to consider Wofford.

While on campus, Brooks was able to see himself part of the Terriers family. He had visions beyond his own dreams.

“I think of it as somewhere I can start and leave my own legacy at,” Brooks said. “I think I can help the program build into a tough contender.”

Wofford’s success in the past was another reason the Bartow High prospect wanted to be part of its accomplishments.

“It let me know that the coaching there knows what it takes to get to the tournament,” Brooks said. “That’s every college, regardless of the size of the school, which is why I don’ t mind attending Wofford and being part of their family.”

Brooks was relieved the recruiting process was over but learned a lot along the way.

“It taught me, through it all, to be patient and everything will play itself out the way you want it to. The name or size of the school doesn’t matter.

“All that matters is how you can help the program build and how they can help you accomplish the goals you have.”
