Dunk City lands important future resident
The recruiting ripple effect is starting to rear its head at Florida Gulf Coast. After a Final Four run and a homerun head coaching hire in Joe Dooley, Dunk City is quickly populating with great talent.
Zach Johnson of Miami (Fla.) Norland verbally committed to the Atlantic Sun school after taking an official visit over the weekend.
"I feel like it is a perfect for me," Johnson said on Monday afternoon. "It is a great fit. The campus is amazing. It really couldn't be a better situation for me."
Johnson took an unofficial visit to the school prior to the last weekend but seein the student body in action pushed the program over the edge.
"Their fans are crazy. I really didn't think it could get any better when it came to their fans," Johnson said.
After a Sweet 16 run in last year's NCAA tournament, Florida Gulf Coast wanted to reach a little higher for prospects and focused in on Johnson. The Miami native said he likes the direction things are moving at FGCU.
"With Coach Dooley's background and his history, I think we can do some big things," Johnson said. "You can only keep building up. I think we can become like a Butler. We can only continue to get better."
Johnson joins talented guard Christian Terrell in the backcourt for FGCU in the 2014 class.
"He's one of the big reasons why I picked Florida Gulf Coast," Johnson said. "I think we can make a great backcourt together."
