Life long goal of playing in ACC comes true for Lang
There is an ACC history in TJ Lang's house and the 6-foot-5 wing is ready to continue it. The Mobile, Alabama native took an official visit to Viriginia Tech last weekend and decided he was ready to end his recruitment and play in the same conference where his dad played 20 years ago.
"There have been two players from Mobile that will play in the ACC," Lang said. "My dad and now me."
Lang is the son of former Duke star Antonio Lang. Growing up watching the conference, the younger Lang said playing in the ACC has been a lifelong goal.
"It's amazing. I'm blessed. It has been a dream of mine to play in the ACC. The opportunity to do it, I just can't even describe how it feels," Lang said.
The Hokies made Lange a priority in July when he played for Game Elite, posting up at his games in Augusta and at the Best of the South at the Suwanee Sports Academy. Lang said he took notice of when the coaches where at his games.
"The dedication the coaches had to me throughout the whole AAU season stood out. Coach (James) Johnson and (assistant Kurt) Kanaski were always the first people at my games no matter when I played. They always had one or more coaches at my games whenever I played," Lang said. "If I played at 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock at night or if it was 8 o'clock the next morning, (Johnson) was first one in the gym. That stuck with me."
Sealing the deal was the official visit to Blacksburg.
"It didn't feel just like a basketball team," Lang said of his time with the team. "It felt more like a family type of deal. I thought it was the perfect place for me."
