Gilmore is a major score for VCU

After winning the Nike Peach Jam in July, a majority of the E1T1 roster went to Washington D.C. for a Nike All-American camp. Michael Gilmore came to the Best of the South and took full advantage of his opportunity that was before him.

The 6-foot-9 big man from Tallahassee finished the event as one of the best big men in the tournament and took his recruitment to another level.

Gilmore really emerged into a national prospect and finished as one of the top overall performers from the event.

Virginia Commonwealth, Kansas State, Georgia Tech and Miami were the finalists for his talents. Gilmore took two visits, going to K-State and VCU. He cancelled his visit to Georgia Tech for this weekend.

Why VCU? Why not? Shaka Smart and staff are putting together a major recruiting class. Gilmore told Rob Harrington of Scout.com:

"I think just after taking visits and doing a compare and contrast, VCU's pros came out ahead," Gilmore told Scout.com. "There's an opportunity to come right in and get playing time, and that was a major reason."

He joins Terry Larrier, Justin Tillman and Jonathan Williams in VCU's class. Larrier, a 6-foot-7 perimeter sniper, is the gem of the class. The quartet should help the Rams make a top 25 recruiting class poll when it is all said and done.
