Woods stays close to home

Team Charlotte won a lot of games this year on the travel circuit. The team knocked out a lot of traditional powers along the way. How did they do that? Guys like Keyshawn Woods helped push the team deep into brackets and eventually the winner's platform.

That winning pedigree was attractive to the Charlotte 49ers and the Conference USA school went full court press for the local product. After years of developing a strong relationship, Woods decided today was the day where he committed to Alan Major and the rest of the Charlotte coaching staff.

"I just love everything that they've done for me throughout this process. They've been there for me every step along the way during this process," Woods said. "They've been recruiting me since the ninth grade. The relationship I have with them is strong. I just knew that was the right place for me."

"I know I can talk to them about anything. Coach (Ryan) Odom recruited me and we talk about anything. I know I can talk to every last one of them about anything - players, games, drama, anything. I just like that about them."

Woods helped Team Charlotte win the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions this year and anchored a great starting line-up. His teammate Kendrick Flomo committed to Appalachian State on Wednesday and James Demery is one of the top wings in the country.

Woods picked Charlotte over UNC-Greensboro, Houston, Tulsa, College of Charleston, George Mason and Chattanooga.

For a program like Charlotte, landing a local player that has continually helped knock out teams with players that are considered the best of the best is huge, to say the least. Woods hopes to play the role of bracket buster in college, too.

"I just know coming in that most of us at Charlotte have been underdogs all of our lives. I think that's going to be a plus for us," Woods said. "Everyone will be hungry."
