Former Auburn assistant headed to Montrose
After several years away from the boy’s basketball sidelines, Bryan Bartley is back in the game.
Bartley has accepted the head boys basketball coaching position at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland on Tuesday. The former Hebron Christian Academy athletic director is succeeding Stu Vetter, who resigned after 14 years.
Bartley will also serve as the Maryland schools assistant principal.
Prior to being the athletic director and girls basketball coach at Hebron, Bartley served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Auburn University from 2007-2011. He was also the head boys coach at Landmark Christian School in Fairburn for four seasons (2001-2005), where he coached McDonald’s All-American, Atlanta Celtics product, the University of Kentucky standout and former Hawks player Randolph Morris.
“I am honored to be called to inspire our students and student-athletes to achieve excellence in academics and athletics for the glory of God,” said Bartley in a press release.
This basketball lifer has remained involved with the game in a number of ways. Bartley has served in various leadership roles within NIKE summer basketball programs, most recently as Basketball Administrator for NIKE Skills Academy, Kevin Durant Skills Academy, LeBron James Skills Academy and NIKE Global Games.

Montrose Christian was founded in 1977 and provides a Christ-centered education. It is fully accredited as a K-12 academic institution by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school has also been recognized for its athletic accomplishments, particularly for those of its basketball team. The Oklahoma Thunder’s Kevin Durant led the school to a Super 25 rankings by USA Today in 2005-06. The school has finished ranked nationally five times in the 2000’s. Other MCS basketball alums are Greivis Vasquez (New Orleans Pelicans), Linas Kleiza (Toronto Raptors) and Terrance Ross (Toronto Raptors).
Last season, the Mustangs finished 19-5. Under Vetter, who was 321-47 at Montrose, won a national championship in 2010-11.
Bartley, who played at Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey has a communications degree before playing professional basketball for three seasons in Portugal from 19890-90.
