SUWANEE, GA – Basketball fans and college coaches alike enter July with high expectations. They want to see teams compete and play to win.

A week into the Live period, some teams have shown they are going to take advantage of the month and show they are ready to compete at the next level. Considering the way the pools for the Best of the South are set, teams will need to bring their maximum effort.

Any games in this division are worth watching. The pools are deep and the talent is rich. These are just some we decided to highlight because of matchups.

Heat Check vs. Atlanta Celtics Stephens, Thursday 4:15 pm

These are two teams playing up: Heat Check as a 15U team and the Atlanta Celtics as a 16s. However, regardless how many levels up the teams are playing one thing is certain, this is the first time both teams are meeting each other this season. This is a metro Atlanta battle worth attending. Point guard Christian TurnerDerek St. Hilaire and small forward D’Marcus Simonds. The Celtics have 6-foot-9 center Jackson Emerson, guards Jordan Burrow and forward Hassahn Young.

Gold Coast vs. Atlanta Celtics Glover, Thursday 8 pm

Twins Jason and Justin Massey, who are relentless forwards from American Heritage, lead the charge for the Florida-based organization. Gold Coast also has Joseph Lopez a 6-foot-6 forward who has a high motor. The Celtics are loaded with marquee names and high-level college prospects. Mississippi State football commit Elijah Staley is a phenomenal athlete, Jaylen Patterson is a matured floor general and forward Chris Coakley is the workhorse.

Aim High vs. Florida Elite, Friday 8:00 am

This is the travel ball equivalent of college basketballs mid-major meeting a high major program. Aim High has shown that it can hang with all comers. This team has been together for four years, which is evident in the teams chemistry and camaraderie. Forward Eric Lockett returns to Aim High after spending the spring with the Georgia Stars on the EYBL circuit. Teammate Cleveland Jackson continues to prove he’s a player. Ramel Thompkins (pictured) is garnering attention in the interior. Florida Elite has Brandone Francis, who committed to Florida, while teammate Dante Buford is getting high-major interest. Elite also has two players pushing 7-feet.

Game Elite vs. E1T1, Friday 7:15 pm

Here is an opportunity to see some quality post players meeting head-to-head. Game Elite has the 6-foot-9 duo of JohnCarlos Reyes and Daniel Giddens. They will be meeting 7-foot-1 Trayvon Reed and 6'9 Michael Gilmore from E1T1. They have never matched up against each other and it should lead to an interesting contest. Game Elite’s Jaylen Brown and Marcus Sheffield have both shown why college coaches have planned their trips to see them play. Avery Patterson is a hard nose floor general for Game Elite. E1T1 started the month winning the EYBL championship in Augusta.

Game Elite vs. Alabama Elite, Thursday 6:45 pm

This matchup has some players who are on the cusp of having a breakout month. Game Elite has Andrew Jones running the point, forward Cameron Johnson finishing above the rim, Makhai Eastmond adding some guard depth and 2016 prospect Tremayne Anchrum mixing it up inside. Alabama Elite comes in after a solid first week of July. Ethan Stair is the catalyst of the team with offers from Kennesaw State and High Point. His teammates Justin Alexander, Jaquez Johnson and Dominique McNealy make the Elite a balanced team.

E1T1 vs. 3T All-Stars, Thursday 9:15 pm

After playing in the finals of the EYBL Peach Jam, E1T1 is coming into the Best of the South looking to get a championship. They will be matched up with the 3T All-Stars who are loaded up with players to watch. A player we featured earlier in the spring, Tope Arikawe is a 6-foot-7 power forward with a passion for competing and a college ready body. Teammate Martins Igbanu is a Class of 2016 prospect who will catch your eye by the way he moves on the court. Point guard Anthony Rice is an efficient floor general.

15U

This division has some games and players everyone needs to watch.

Georgia Stars DB vs. Showtime Hoops, Thursday 9:15 pm

This is a game showcasing two of the rising prospects in the state with Georgia Stars Kevon Tucker and Showtime Hoops Tyree Crump. Tucker is a 6-foot-4 forward who can get to the rim as good as anyone in the class. Crump, who has been offered by the Georgia, is possibly the best scorer in the class. He knows how to fill it up. They will matchup at some point during the game. The Stars also have Chris Lewis, who is a 6-foot-7 forward with some high-major offers, 6’5 Brent Duncan and 6’3 Keith Gilmore (pictured), a sleeper in the Class of 2016 discovered during The Preview in June.
