Visit leads to Dante Scott decision

Dante Scott travelled to Mississippi State over the weekend and saw enough to make a verbal commitment to the SEC school.

The 6-foot-5 built-like-a-linebacker wing from Smyrna (Ga.) Campbell High School took the quick trip to Mississippi State with his family, met with the coaches and academic staff and decided to end the process this week.

"Very good visit, it really was," Scott said. "The visit solved it all for me. Getting to know the coaches in person was important. It really sealed the deal."

The relationship with the coaches played a major factor in his decision.

"I was really close with coach Ray and (assistant coach Wes) Flanigan. I've been talking to them for the last year. We have a good report with them. It is really good," Scott said.

Scott played well at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions and was one of the top 2015 players at the event. The top 10 junior in Georgia is a solid pick-up for the Mississippi State. He is the first player in Georgia's 2015 class to commit to a school.

He picked Mississippi State over a host of other programs. Now Scott says he's looking forward to competing against them in the future.

"Some of the schools haven't offered me yet and I wanted to play against some of the schools that were recruiting me but haven't offered me like Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida. The SEC has the best competition and I want show that I'm the best."

Scott was one of the top scoring sophomores in Georgia this season and had a fantastic year for Campbell head coach James Gwyn.

Ray and the Bulldogs have made Georgia a priority in the recruiting game since he took over the program. Since 2002, only one Peach State player has suited up for Mississippi State. Jacquiese Holcombe (of Creekside then Georgia Perimeter) played one season in Starkville in 2008-2009.
