College coaches and basketball fans came to Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions this year looking for talent. Here are my top 10 players and their “wow moment” from the event.

Dante Buford, CG, Florida Elite

WOW MOMENT: When it comes to pressure Buford never flinched. He took the spotlight in double-overtime nailing a free throw in sudden death against the PSB Select to help Florida Elite advance. Buford continued to have a solid performance throughout the weekend and finished with 18.2 points a game.

James Demery, CG, Team Charlotte

WOW MOMENT: Helped navigate and willed his team to the championship. Down by double figures against Team Heat, the junior proceeded to score the next three baskets to not only cut into the lead before getting an overtime win. His ability to slash, take defenders off the ball and lock down opposing players was the recipe in getting the 17U National bracket championship.

Jayln Patterson, PG, Atlanta Celtics Dion Glover

WOW MOMENT: Being a way in Florida for a year, the Atlanta native returned a more polished point guard. His performance against the Upward Stars was what caught our eye. Being pressured by three defenders Patterson just dribbled around them while still pushing the tempo. He followed all of that with a three-pointer. His poise and savvy is the reason the Celtics were in contention for a title.

Gabe Devoe, CG, Team Heat

WOW MOMENT: The first thing that caught my eye was him getting through the lane against the Atlanta Celtics Neysmith. He danced through traffic like he was auditioning for Dancing with the Stars. Devoe knows how to finish plays and set the tone with his quickness.

Lance Tejada, PG, E1T1 Flash

WOW MOMENT: He didn’t wait long to catch everyone’s attention. On the opening night, the junior guard scored a tournament-high 38 points in the teams first-round victory over Storm Elite. His team needed all the points and Tejada finished averaging 23 points a game for the tournament.

Temarcus Blanton, F, Atlanta Xpress

WOW MOMENT: High energy, high motor are the two ways to describe what this 6-4 forward. His first round performance was electrifying where he did everything short of being spectacular. Blanton shot the ball well and made several plays in the open floor that caught your attention.

Brandone Francis, CG, Florida Elite

WOW MOMENT: His performance against the Atlanta Celtics Dion Glover showed that Francis is an all-around player. He ran the floor like a bull but finished jumpers with a feathery touch. Francis scored on three consecutive baskets to help put some distance between both teams.

Schadrac Casmir, PG, USAD

WOW MOMENT: After an 18-hour bus ride, the South Kent product was not phased scoring 30 points in the teams opening round game. This helped set the tone for his team who rode that momentum to the Final Four of the 17U American bracket. He was just so quick off the dribble and consistent with his jumper.

Deshawn Freeman, F, NC Red Storm

WOW MOMENT: This 6-7 forward caught a pass while running down the lane to put down a two-handed thunderous dunk. The play was an introduction to this unsigned senior. He proceeded to show throughout the weekend that he was the best player in the tournament.

Jorge Perez-Laham, PG, Gold Coast 17U

WOW MOMENT: We first saw him in another event becoming a player to watch and he didn’t disappoint. The floor general knows how to play the position. He’s not flashy nor does he over dribble. His game is as vanilla ice cream as it gets but it has the entire flavor a coach is looking for in a point. Perez-Laham’s was dropping dimes to teammates and frustrating opponents, while making several Division I programs looking for a PG happy.
