Making the Jump: Marcus Sheffield

Let's rewind for a bit.

As a fresh-faced sophomore on a good Chattahooche High School team, Marcus Sheffield started the high school basketball season with little expectations. He played with a pair of quality seniors in Markus Terry and Trey Archambeau, who already assumed the role of go-to guy and leader.

All Sheffield needed to do was show up, make positive plays and continue to grow.

That he did. Now that the spring travel season is here, we've seen that process of growth find the light and he's taken off. Playing with Game Elite, the long-armed 6-foot-5 wing was one of our top surprises players at the Wallace Prather.

He showed why he's been on the #BeSeen watch list for a while. The class of 2015 prospect can shoot. He's athletic enough to cause some problems off the bounce. Ask Sheffield what his strength is and he gets to the point.

"I think have good size for my position. I'm athletic. I think I can shoot pretty good," Sheffield said. "My three-point is probably my best strength."

Noted.

That's why a number of schools are putting Sheffield on the must-see-this-summer list. Wake Forest, Clemson, Maryland, Georgia, George Mason and Georgia State have all jumped in line in various ways.

Sheffield said he is going Georgia State for the school's elite camp. Penn State has also extended the invite and he's contemplating a trip to Happy Valley in June.

Fast forward to the end of July and we could be talking about one of the top 10 players in Georgia and a prospect with a handful of quality offers entering his junior season.
