NPES: Stars avenge earlier defeat to win championship

SUWANEE – Sometimes the best wake-up calls in sports is adversity. The Georgia Stars 14U team is considered one of the better teams in the state. They are talented, well coached and have chemistry on the floor. However, there are times the Stars will get tripped up by a team they should have handled. This is when losing is the great motivator.

After losing a game in pool play, the Stars turned it up in the 14U championship to beat the Atlanta Xpress 69-56 at Suwanee Sports Academy on Sunday. The Xpress were the only team to beat the Stars in pool play. This was the Stars opportunity to get the taste of losing from their mouth.

The Stars jumped out early when Rayshaw Hammond established himself as a scorer early and finished with a game-high 20 points. His scoring propelled the Stars forward and they never let up. Dathan Boyd added 10 points while Kelton Dawson chipped in with nine.

Things were clicking for the Stars, who looked relaxed but played with some intensity to secure the championship. Jason Pace poured in eight points while Dalvin White had seven points, six assists and three rebounds. Titus Cook scored six. Drew Smith and Khamron Gordon finished with five and two points respectfully.

This is the balance coach Walt White is looking to get from his team this travel season. The Stars are also a team that will be a contender for many more championships.
