Day 2 Atlanta Jam Notebook from Justin Byerly
One day left here at The Atlanta Jam. The first portion of the April live period is almost over and some prospects made their case to the schools that were in attendance to see if they are worthy of scholarships. Let's take a look at my notebook from everything that went down on Day 2.
Smooth as Tennessee Whiskey
One thing about a Tennessee Tiger team is they are going to play hard, they are going to play as a unit and they are as well coached as anyone.
Every Tennessee Tiger team that I have ever seen over the years has a couple of really good guards and some big men coupled with a slashing type of wing. This year it is Parker Robinson at the guard spot. He can knock down shots from all over the floor and he can be the leader out on the floor, directing his teammates and setting up the offense. In the front court, it was Maddux Routh who was the impressive guy on Saturday. He has good size, uses a lot of shot-fakes and jab-steps to get his defender moving before he makes his drive to the basket. He is skilled and has a knack for rebounding.
DB Elite Big Two Show-Out
RJ Bridges continues to impress here at The Atlanta Jam the same way he did in Raleigh last week. The 6-foot-5 unsigned senior scored 20 points in a win over Play with Heart late this afternoon. He has Camden Scott's squad sitting at 1-1 for the weekend with two games to play tomorrow.
2024 guard Jackson Rein showed that he is one of the top shooters at the event. He made shots from the perimeter and shots from the mid-range at consistent clip. Rein looks like a guy that can grab a high D2 offer or a low-major offer over the next couple of months.
CHIME THE BELLS
2024 forward Kenneth Chime was a guy that stood out for Play with Heart today. He is a big man prospect with length and a soft touch around the rim. He is an explosive athlete with good footwork. He is always moving and working for position. Chime can knock down shots from the outside and has a nice back-to-the-basket game. Our guy Josh Tec has told us about him and it was my first time seeing him and he showed out when it mattered, as college coaches were watching.
Otyaluk Shines On Big Stage
6-foot-7 wing/forward prospect Isaiah Otyaluk had a great Saturday. In their first-game of the day, Otyaluk scored 24 points in the first half and finished with 34 points in a win for No Guts No Glory. He is an interesting prospect that can make shots from the outside, he uses his quick first-step to get to the rim. He is a productive rebounder and can push the ball up the floor with a good handle for his size. He stays under-control when he gets the ball in the paint and waits for the exact right moment to make the basket. He had a lot of college coaches talking on the baseline and it is just a matter of time before his recruitment starts to take off.
Another J. Cole, Bell Shines
Team Wall's Jullien Cole had a lot of college coaches talking over the weekend with his play. He has great size at either guard spot. Cole can a score off the catch or off the dribble. He causes problems on defense with his length and his ability to cause deflections and steals. Cole is a capable shooter from outside and can rattle off some shots from deep in a row. He makes good reads with the defense, smart player, high basketball IQ and understands the game.
Another guard prospect for Team Wall, Caden Bell also stood out today with his play at The Atlanta Jam. He has good size and scoring ability he showcased during both games today. The 6-foot-2 guard prospect has a quick first-step and can get to the paint and finish.
