DC’s Best of the South Day 1 Notebook

The live period is in full effect, and our Best of the South event has totally lived up to its expectations. Almost 200 coaches came to look at all the talented players under one roof. Here are my takeaways from day one.

Standout Guard

No player came out stronger on the first day than STARS Basketball Club’s RJ Casey. This 5-foot-10 PG came out firing on all cylinders last night. He put on an excellent performance against the SV Soldiers Elite, leading his team to a 77-66 win. Casey has all the ability to run the offense and, at the same time, be an offensive threat. His quickness allows him to get to any spot he pleases on the court. Casey was in full go mode, dropping 34 points, dishing five assists, and grabbing three steals. Be sure to look out for more impressive showings from Casey this weekend.

Standout Big

Dresean Knight is a 6-foot-11 big man playing with the Hawks Elite travel team. This kid gets impressive each time he steps on the floor. Knight brings back the meaning of a true big man. His work in the post is outstanding, and his rebounding is just as impressive. Players had a hard time dealing with Knight in the paint last night. He can finish through contact and uses his size to overpower every defender.

Heart Player of the Day

Colby McAllister is a 6-foot-4 SG playing for Team Speights Alabama. McAllister is a rugged player that is always ready to step up to the plate and take over. His motor goes nonstop and can ensure to give a coach 100% each game. Despite walking away with a loss in his first game, McAllister did not go away quietly. He balled his way to a 24-point game and showed everyone that he’s coming at anyone that gets in his way this weekend. In the next game against the LoneStar Elite, McAllister would go on a shooting clinic knocking down five threes leading his team to a 77-75 victory with some help from Hunter Ivy, who dropped 20. McAllister would finish with another 24-point game.
