Darryl LaBarrie named as HoopSeen Preview camp director

Well-respected college coach Darryl LaBarrie will once again serve as the head director of our upcoming Preview camp series taking place in Alabama and Georgia. It was a great experience for all involved as LaBarrie most recently led our camp series back during the fall of 2018.

"I was fortunate enough to work the HoopSeen camps a couple of years ago and our philosophies on how camps should be run plus the benefit to the players moving forward align. This has been a crazy year to say the least and our young players need camps that focus on teaching the game the right way as well as life lessons that will help them moving forward like we do here at HoopSeen more than ever."

A graduate of Georgia Tech, the former Yellow Jacket guard has been a staple in the Peach State as a player and coach. He's a former all-state player in Georgia and Dekalb County Player of the Year when he lead Tucker to a state championship. Labarrie can routinely be found in gyms across the state of Georgia as a prominent voice for SUVtv.

LaBarrie brings over a wealth of knowledge and experience as he has been to the second round of the NCAA twice on a coaching staff. He played in one NCAA tournament as a player and the NIT finals. He’s been on a coaching staff that won over 20 games seven times in his career.

He has coached and/or recruited NBA players Derrick Favors, Iman Shumpert, Gani Lawal, Glen Rice, RJ Hunter and Josh Okogie. He has also coached and/or recruited over 25 players playing professionally overseas.

LaBarrie joins a long list of college coaches who have lead our Elite Preview series. Current Cleveland State head coach Dennis Felton, current Columbia State head coach Winston Neal, current interim Harrison High School head coach Douglas Byrd and retired Pete Hermann, formerly of Young Harris. Our high school coaches that work the camp have won numerous state and region championships.

"This year has challenged us all in some way shape or form. Throughout the many ups and downs of this shortened travel ball season, we have always tried to see through the lens of the student athletes that come through our doors." said HoopSeen communications manager Tai Young. "Despite the challenges that our prospects have faced, they have not stopped using basketball as their guiding light. We use our camp series to teach lessons that are not only beneficial on the court, but can also be applied beyond those lines. There was no one better to provide that guidance than our old camp director, Darryl LaBarrie. Along with our selected group of camp coaches, we feel great about providing players with a great camp experience."
